The number that matters: cost per copy
Printing has heavy setup costs, so the per-copy price falls fast as quantity rises. For a typical 32-page, full-colour, standard-size comic (6.625 x 10.25 in, saddle-stitched):

Black-and-white interiors typically run 30 to 50 percent cheaper than colour. Page count scales roughly linearly: a 48-page book costs about 40 percent more than a 32-page book at the same quantity. What drives the price
- Quantity. The single biggest factor. Setup dominates small runs.
- Colour vs black and white. Four-colour process costs more per impression than one pass of black.
- Page count. More pages, more paper. Interiors must be a multiple of four.
- Paper stock. Heavier and glossier costs more. 70 lb interior with a 100 lb gloss cover is a popular indie sweet spot.
- Binding. Saddle stitch is cheapest and standard up to about 48 pages. Perfect binding adds cost but shelves like a book.
- Shipping. Books are heavy. Overseas offset adds 10 to 25 percent in freight; budget it from the start.
