Webtoon Image Size Requirements
Webtoon Canvas shows 800 px wide images in slices up to 1280 px tall; Tapas differs. How big to draw, where to slice, the file limits, and keeping a print option open.

Vertical strips are a different medium
A webtoon is one tall image read by scrolling, uploaded as a stack of slices. There is no trim, no bleed and no DPI. What matters is the width the platform displays at, the maximum height of each slice, the file size per slice, and how many slices an episode may have. Draw for the width, cut to the height limit, and everything else follows.
Platform limits
Numbers as commonly published at the time of writing. Platforms revise these; confirm on the upload page before a first episode.
| Platform | Width | Max slice height | Per-file limit | Slices per episode |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Webtoon Canvas | 800 px (fixed) | 1280 px | small, low single-digit MB; JPG/PNG | up to 100 |
| Tapas | up to 940 px recommended | 4000 px | a few MB | large |
| Own site / social | 1080 px works well | your choice | none | none |
Work bigger, export to the width
Draw at 1600 to 2400 px wide and let the platform scale down; the extra pixels sharpen lines on high-density phones and give you room to reuse panels in print later. Keep a consistent canvas width per series so episodes line up. Export the final strip at the platform width with the aspect ratio unchanged, then slice.
Slicing without cutting through a panel
Slice boundaries are invisible to readers only if they fall in gutters. Slicing every 1280 px exactly will land in the middle of faces. The right approach is to slice at the last gutter before the height limit, which is what the webtoon slicer does: it resizes the strip to the platform width, looks for a band of near-flat background just above each limit and cuts there, and marks any slice that had to be a hard cut through the art. Leave clear gutters as you draw and it finds them.
Print later?
A strip drawn at 800 px wide cannot be printed at any useful size. If a print collection is even a possibility, draw at least 2400 px wide (about 8 in at 300 DPI) and keep panels sized so they can be rearranged onto a page. The page size calculator shows what a print page needs in pixels.
Questions
What size should Webtoon images be?
Webtoon Canvas displays at 800 px wide and takes slices up to 1280 px tall, with a small per-file size limit. Draw wider and export down to 800 px.
